Yolk Farm is the world’s first egg restaurant on a real egg farm with an onsite farm shop and animals all around for the kids see.
It’s nice and easy to find (YO51 9HY), has plenty of free parking and there is always activities for the kids to do. (During this May half term there is ‘Mini Wildlife Explorers’ which is £2 per child and includes binoculars, magnifying glass and activity pack).
Minskip Farm Shop is right next door and although it looks small from the outside, it’s bigger than it looks and has a great choice of fresh, local produce. The strawberries were super tasty and you can’t not buy some of their free range eggs.
Food from Yolk is so fresh and it’s not all eggs. Think breakfasts, sandwiches and pancake stacks! Lighter bites start from £4.95 through to a full ‘Yolk’shire breakfast at £15.95 (See full menu at the bottom of the page, correct at May 2022). We decided on the kids chicken bites (£5.95) and scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon (£8.90) which was delicious. We’re undecided on the chicken bites as the batter was a bit too fancy for my fussy eater however when we go back again she’s already decided she’s having a sausage sandwich and making sure she gets to sit on one of the tables with swings for chairs. There’s a great selection of sweet treats as well as savoury and on busy days you can get some drinks and snacks from the barn in the car park.
One of the highlights of our visit were the animals, especially being able to feed the pigs. You can buy pig food (which is a bag of prepared and cut veg) in the shop for 50p a bag and there are chutes by the fence that kids can send the food down for the pigs. You can also see all the chickens, goats and alpacas that live on the farm. Alpaca experiences are available to book on Sundays for £40 for a family of four which is very reasonable if you’ve ever looked at booking something like Nidderdale Llamas which is a longer experience but starts at around £40pp.
As well as the animals and the farm shop there’s plenty of outdoor space to play and picnic on and a hay bail mountain to tire out little legs. All in all I think Yolk is a great day out with kids near Harrogate, we’ll definitely be going again.
