If Harrogate isn’t the capital of afternoon teas it should be. After some extensive and mouth-watering research I have compiled an updated list for 2024 to help you discover the best afternoon tea in Harrogate.

Bettys

Obviously Bettys had to feature in this list so I thought we’d start with the most famous Harrogate afternoon tea of them all.

One of the oldest independent businesses in Harrogate, Bettys is a must visit whether its for afternoon tea or just to pick up some cream cakes to take away. Face the queues and get a window seat to indulge in the most famous Harrogate afternoon tea whilst watching the world go by. Or why not book your afternoon tea in the first floor Imperial room. Read more about my insider tips to make the most of a trip to Bettys here.

The Majestic Hotel

Dominating the skyline of Harrogate is the DoubleTree by Hilton Majestic Hotel. I recently visit for Sunday lunch which was one of the best I’d ever had, so I knew the afternoon tea would be just as good. We certainly didn’t come away hungry.

The Majestic hotel has a beautiful terrace overlooking their gardens and the town centre so if you are visiting Harrogate in the warmer months, make sure you take your afternoon tea outside if you can.

Times & Prices: The Majestic Hotel Afternoon tea is served 12-4 Mon to Fri and 1-4 Sat & Sun priced at £24.95pp. Add £5 for prosecco and £9 for Champagne or a gin & tonic.

Mama Doreen’s

Again this will be no shock if you’ve followed me for a while. Mama Doreen’s have a full blog dedicated to them here. Slightly controversial but I have named them the best afternoon tea in Harrogate!

It’s no secret that I do love a Mama Doreen’s afternoon tea, in fact, Santa brought Izzy and I a voucher so we went in February for our birthday’s.

Look out for their special afternoon teas. The prices are more than the standard ones but their attention to detail is second to none. The picture above is from their ‘Summer of Cake’ special and the afternoon tea they created for the Jubilee was insane!

Times & Prices: Mama Doreen’s afternoon tea is served from 11.30am priced at £24.95pp. Add £5 for prosecco. This is the only place on the list to offer smaller portions for kids (£9.50) and senior citizens (£15 Mon-Fri).

Fodder

This is the first of two listings from my favourite farm shops, so these are for you if you like your local Yorkshire produce.

Just on the outskirts of Harrogate situated next to the Yorkshire Show Ground you’ll find Harrogate’s original farm shop, its hard to visit without coming out with handfuls of tasty local treats. Its my go-to shop for Yorkshire Pasta which is a favourite in our house.

With easy parking and bottomless Yorkshire Tea, this is a great choice if you want to avoid parking dramas in the centre of Harrogate.

The newest build on the list, Crimple has only been open around a year but has quickly become a favourite with locals.

Offering a huge food hall, garden centre and homewares, Crimple is almost always busy. They also have a lovely outdoor eating area which is open in the warmer weather.
