A Day Out at Castle Howard

We’d never been to Castle Howard before and we were really impressed. There’s so much to do for both grown ups and kids to see and do.

Admission to the gardens is £15 for Adults and £9 for children. To see the house and gardens costs £25 for Adults and £12.50 children. Under 2’s go free.

I was excited to visit, being a massive fan of Bridgeton. It was filmed and shown in Season 1 as Clyvedon Castle and you can see when you visit why it has been used in so many film. The highlight of the day was definitely ‘Skelf Island’ the extensive adventure playground. There were areas to suit all ages and even the small ones could do some of the bigger parts if accompanied by an adult.

The large rope bridge across to the island is not for the feint hearted but there is a low bridge if you’re not a fan of heights.

We visited in the middle of the summer holidays, on a sunny day and it never felt too busy which was nice.

There are a few cafes on site so you are never far from somewhere to get a drink and bite to eat. There is also a dedicated ice cream kiosk by the play area too serving Northern Bloc ice cream.

The grounds are very large but to save your legs there is a free tractor train which loops around and visits each stop about every 20 minutes or so.

We easily spent a whole day here with a look around the house, playing at Skelf Island and a picnic in the gardens so although its not the cheapest day out for a family I think its well worth the money.
