All About Birchfield Farm in Harrogate

[Updated May 2024] From strawberry picking in the summer to the pumpkin festival in the autumn, there’s something for everyone at Birchfield Farm.

I love the fact that if you’re strawberry or pumpkin picking, you just pay for what you pick. Our strawberries were £6.95/kg which is dear if you compare them to the shops but its all about the whole experience in my opinion and can provide a cheap day out if you’re on a budget.

There is a little play park just by the entrance to the fields which is free and in the autumn there were plenty of props dotted around the fields, perfect for photo opportunities!

NEW FOR 2024 – The tulip fields are a fantastic addition to Birchfield. We had a lovely afternoon soaking up the sun (finally) and get some great shots at their selfie stations. Entry to the tulip field is £2pp and you can buy individual stems for £1 each .

Once you’re there and into the swing of things it’s hard to resist not going into the farm itself. Entrance is £6.95 for adults and £7.95 for kids and allows you to see all the animals as well as access to the bouncy castles, go carts, sand pit, football pitch, the maize maze (opens late July) and more play areas. There’s something for all ages which is great if you are taking a mix of toddlers and older children.

Food & Drink

The new café and ice cream parlour is really nice and a lot more spacious than it used to be but it still gets very busy in the high seasons. It was raining when we went for strawberries and freezing whilst pumpkin picking so we have never managed to try their ice cream yet…shocker!

They serve hot food and drink as well as the ice creams, milkshakes and waffles. The paninis were super tasty and the portion of chips was huge, easily big enough for two to share. All their food is served in take away containers so you can chose to eat in or sit outside if the weather is nice.

They are open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Sunday and 7 days a week during the school holidays.

The tulip field is open mid April, Strawberry picking is open from mid June for around 5-6 weeks, the Pumpkin Festival runs from the 1st – 31st October and the Maize Maze opens late July.

Even though Izzy is on the older side now we still had a fantastic day, I think she would have quite happily spent all day on the go karts if I let her! If you need more days out ideas for your teens & tweens make sure you read my Boredom Busting Days Out for Teens in Harrogate blog next.
